Though now confined to paleontology reserves, Saberclaws are incredibly aggressive hunters, capable of taking down prey many times their size. Between their hooked claws and saber fangs, they are next to impossible to dislodge once they've engaged. Ancient cave paintings depict them as terrifying monsters, despite their relatively small size. In the modern day they are popular companions for risk-seeking A-listers.

This animation was made by Schmrypto using ten stereoscopic plots created by Robert Mallary in the 1980's. Stereoscopy was a frequent part of Bob's practice, including both plots like these and 3D light sculptures shot using two 35mm cameras. This is a parallel-view stereogram.

Stonyceros are incredibly durable creatures, though their armor plates make them remarkably heavy. Their wide feet keep them from sinking into the shifting sands of their desert home though they must be careful not to bog down in mud, hence their fear of water. It's not fully understood how they remain hydrated in the deep desert, though it has been noted that their armor is surprisingly effective at gathering dew, which is directed to their mouth via small grooves in their surface via capillary action.

The daughter pod of the Pometheas remains attached to it's fleshy stalk until it has accumulated sufficient energy to begin the process of producing seeds, and has sufficient symbiotes integrated to sustain that process. As soon as these conditions are met they detach from the stalk and begin their lives as free floating seed factories, drifting through a seemingly endless sea of tentacles and glowing eyes.

It depicts Bob and his Quad, a pioneering work of digital sculpture completed in the late 1960's.

This beautiful piece is one of Mallary's more direct and literal surviving portraits. The subject, an unnamed woman, is depicted staring directly out of the frame and the execution in charcoal is heavy-handed but still quite subtle. Made during a poorly documented sojourn in California following his return from Mexico, this piece occupies an otherwise sparse point in the timeline.

The generative portrait collection of Robert Mallary

Quad II is the second computer-generated sculpture by the American artist Robert Mallary, created in 1968. Constructed in layers of wood that correspond to computer outputs, the sculpture was designed in TRAN2 with the Fortran programming language. In 2023, the Robert Mallary Archive created a study of Quad II in collaboration with the artist Jonathan Ojekunle by 3D scanning the sculpture and cutting the layers with a CNC machine. This Quad was exhibited alongside the original at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn, New York. 

By creating a new 3D scan of this sculpture, the Robert Mallary Archive has reimagined the artwork in a virtual environment. It is compatible with virtual reality and augmented reality for offline viewing, and a 3D printable file. AR versions of Quad II and Quad IV were debuted at Art Golden Gai in Tokyo, Japan in January of 2025.
