Noun GAN Study by Pindar Van Arman was released one year ago upon the day of this gallery's creation, 1 August 2021. Noun GAN Study was the first collection to utilize the CC0 licensing of the nouns to create an offshoot artwork ("the first nouns deriv"). It also represents a turning point for Van Arman's art as his first natively digital mint. Since the creation of Noun GAN Study, numerous nouns "derivs" have been produced. Van Arman has gone on to create bitGANs based on this initial study, integrating storytelling and community into his practice.
Pindar Van Arman is an AI artist who uses multiple forms of creative coding and algorithmic generation in his art. His work explores the nature of form emerging from nothingness. His 8-bit pieces like Noun GAN Study and bitGANs highlight this complex process against the simple backdrop of pixel art. Both playful and meditative, these images offer an experience akin to the dance of mind meeting sunrise light on water.
Pindar Van Arman continues to be on the cutting edge of new developments in technology with his current work. His Quantum Skull, a collaboration with Russell Huffmann that premiered at Sothebys in April 2022, was the first artwork to be created with quantum computing. He is currently exploring generative processes that utilize and embody quantum principles such as superposition and entanglement.
