Where does a pattern start and a composition end? To me, it comes down to whether the subject of the piece is one or more distinct entities, or if the subject is the fabric itself...
This is of course never so simple… "Bent" is an example of a series that span both purely patterned pieces and pieces with clear focal point and structure
Other pieces, like Archetype, objectify the pattern in such a way that the pattern cease to be a pattern
Sometimes patterns are confined to the piece itself
But other times they are constructed in such a way as to show the infinity of space, either through perfect tiling or by moving incessantly (click through to see animations on fxhash)
Strong geometric concepts are often a perfect fit for interesting patterns
But other concepts are prevalent as well
even nature is a tapestry
And sometimes, just some times, you begin to wonder if the pattern is really a pattern, or a filter in front of something greater
