Come with me on a journey into A.L. Crego and art expressed in GIF
Let's start where I began to notice art as a kid, on the streets. Graffiti art amazed me. I never saw an artist painting walls or buildings. How do they do it? When do they do it? Who did it? I believed it was magic. Everywhere I turned were walls and buildings with beautiful colors and scenes. I always wondered what inspired someone to dream the images, and did why they chose a to put the art outside?
In these samples, A.L. Crego takes photos of street art and breathes life into them with the magic of GIF. I like to think of this as an asynchronized art collaboration. He does a wonderful job animating with intricate details which enhances the original art yet staying true to its original form.
A.L. Crego creations are typified by a seamless loop. Perfect loops require planning and execution. Clearly a perfectionist.
GIF was not originally created to animate images. It was created to compress multiple images. But, animation is the main use case. So enhancements were made to allow for animation delays and looping. The GIF format is in it's young age compared to its predecessors. I wonder what comes next?
Illusions are magic that open the mind. And for some reason you can "hear" when looking at GIF. I don't know the reason why, but A.L. Crego takes advantage of this aspect of the medium. His art has a rhythm visually and mentally ( and some audibly).
GIF format compression restricts colors to 256 colors. Large GIFs with many colors can appear blurry or pixelated.
According to A.L. Credo colors are also ornaments and his recent works lack hue to represent color.
I wonder if GIF format limitation forced him into this realization or if was deconstruction of his vision.
The visual rhythm creates a hypnotic spell which A.L. Crego calls a "visual mantra". Pause, breathe, and regard.
A.L Cregos art expresses thoughts through moments. Self taught and hand made, his style is recognizable and his talent is undeniable. Sometimes only using only light and density. Molded like a sculptor, layer upon layer, rhythmically looping for eternity. Do you feel it?
A.L. Crego's work is prolific and his energy for creation seems endless. Using the blockchain as another medium for his art. He created H3LIX. A virtual space which is a work of art on it's own. And within that space are 300 pieces to be explored.
