Description

Billows is a generative art project that was inspired by the blooming, yet radiant stillness of life beneath the fluidity of oceanic top water. Billows captures this essence through layers of abstract, unworldly organic forms. The composition is built upon a foundation of off-canvas layers—invisible structures that influence the visible artwork, creating a sense of depth, flow, and natural emergence. Central to the visual language of Billows is the use of Bezier curves and Perlin noise, which simulate the soft, sweeping movements of coral polyps and the ever-changing contours of underwater turbulence. These curves twist, stretch, and interact dynamically, mirroring the silent choreography of the structures with its partner tide. Each piece in the Billows series is uniquely generated, with a focus on fluid motion, color harmony, and compositional balance. Soft gradients shift between hues creating a sense of atmospheric depth and mood while bold, expressive strokes ripple and bend with energy suggesting the beauty of grace in tension. The resulting works evoke both stillness and movement, inviting viewers to lose themselves in a meditative moment, as if peering into a dreamlike ocean from above. Billows is an homage to the organic complexity of nature, realized through the structured chaos of code—where mathematics meets the muse of the sea.
