Storms never cease to impress me with their sheer size and scale. Watching massive atmospheric phenomena such as this tower 50,000 feet above my head is profoundly humbling. This incredible storm was less than a quarter-mile away from me when I captured this image. In fact, I was positioned directly in its path. Yet there was no fear, never fear; only awe and admiration. These solitary moments in front of storms have become so deeply personal for me. The world's ceaseless noise grows quiet as it is replaced with happily chirping birds and rumbling thunder. The wind twirls my hair about, as though playing with it, reverting me back to my childlike carefree self. The energy that surrounds me in these moments draws the breath from my lungs and causes the blood to surge rapidly through my veins. It sets my spirit free.
