Computing Art is a brief overview of the life and work of Robert Mallary, with a special focus on his code-based work and especially the TRAN/Quad series. Though it is impossible to even scratch the surface of a life like Bob's in such a short-form work, it's our hope that this piece helps provide some much needed context and color to the expanding picture of this incredible artist.

The first narrative short film released by the Mallary Archive, Recreating Mallary provides some important context on the end of Bob's chemical artistic practice and the beginning of his remarkable relationship with the digital tools of his time, as well as chronicling our attempt to recreate one of his most important works, Quad II, using modern techniques.

This animation was made by Schmrypto using ten stereoscopic plots created by Robert Mallary in the 1980's. Stereoscopy was a frequent part of Bob's practice, including both plots like these and 3D light sculptures shot using two 35mm cameras. This is a parallel-view stereogram.

The inaugural Mallary VIP Pass, this GIF depicts a sampling of the works of Robert Mallary found by Schmrypto in a shipping container in Connecticut in late 2021.

This 1/1 grants the first holder the right to help choose a plotter to become the Genesis Mallary Vintage 1/1 NFT, which will be airdropped to them. Any holder will receive one copy of any Mallary OE or burn-redeem released while held in 2023.

Mallary VIP Pass 2023

This piece was created by Sadboi as part of an ongoing series of commissions celebrating the artistic legacy of Bob Mallary.

It depicts Bob and his Quad, a pioneering work of digital sculpture completed in the late 1960's.

The image is partly composed of textures and Fragment's from Bob's own practice, beautifully executed by Sadboi in 2025.
