Because it's so cold here, there is very little danger of slipping through the ice and falling into a lake. It does happen from time to time, but after a few weeks I figured out where the dangerous spots are. This is one of the researchers I camped with out near that glacier. He was a cool guy that had this amazing plane-drone that he had built. He would criss-cross the surface with it, taking high-resolution photos, looking for various microbes and stuff. I don't know how he could see if there were microbes from 100 meters up. He tried to explain it to me, but I just didn't get it and eventually tuned him out. I nodded enthusiastically only because he was so excited to try to describe something impossibly confusing. Antarctica
