WENDOVER WILL

Collection

Untitled Collection #252906009

Description

Edition of 15 Wendover Will is an iconic landmark of Wendover. Named after William Smith, founder of the Stateline Casino, it was built by Pat Denner in 1952. Towering 63 feet tall, with over 1,000 feet of neon tubing, Will is recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as "The World's Largest Mechanical Cowboy." The caption at his base once marked the self-proclaimed place "Where the West Begins." It now welcomes visitors to the city of West Wendover, Nevada. This image, taken on a Mamiya 645 1000S medium format film camera, using Kodak Portra 160 film, was used as the cover image for my [photo book](http://www.oliverdahl.com/store/p72/wendover.html) entitled "WENDOVER," a body of work documenting the relationship between Wendover, Utah and West Wendover, Nevada.
