Pathos 8

Collection

Untitled Collection #252906009

Description

Pathos 8 (4/19/2021, R code). This piece is part of twenty selected generative artworks released as unique iterations (numbered 1-10), in a limited collection by Kenny Vaden: “A Human in Times of Chaos.” Pathos is probably one of the most delicate and complex surfaces that I’ve coded to date. First, the average vertical path was established, which provide a scaffolding to create 1,000 slowly undulating parallel lines based on spline interpolation. Before plotting the individual tracks, a matrix of random weights was generated and averaged across pairs of lines 25 times. When the x coordinates for each line were multiplied by the weights, this produced high frequency waves that propagated over the vertical lines. Each line was drawn with a jittered color gradient, and small horizontal connections were drawn to line each line with the previous one. Finally, approximate 10% of the spaces within the resultant grid were substituted with filled polygons. The image dimensions for this file are 16x20 inches and 300 DPI, which produced a file size below the 40 MB limit but provides a higher resolution (more detail) than the original version shown online.
