The Physique Athlete

Collection

Untitled Collection #252906009

Description

The Physique Athlete is a fine art portrait created by Australian artist Troy Schooneman inspired by the life-size bronze sculptures of French sculptor Auguste Rodin (1840-1917). Rodin’s male nude figures were so lifelike that he was once accused of being a sorcerer who created his works by encasing living subjects within his sculptures, trapping their souls for all eternity. Garnering acclaim for more than a century, Rodin is widely regarded as the pioneer of modern sculpture. With samples of his work found around the world, his legacy continues to be studied and deeply admired by fellow artists, experts, scholars and art connoisseurs, and the general public alike. This particular portrait features an amateur physique athlete from Ireland. The portrait is highly unusual in that the athlete is performing a classic "vacuum pose" which is traditionally performed when standing rather than when seated. The vacuum pose was made popular by Arnold Schwarzenegger and involves simultaneously expanding the rib cage while expelling air from the lungs. The effect creates a dramatic hollow below the ribs, displaying a muscled upper body perched atop a narrow abdominal column. Edition of 15
