Description

People crossing along the patterns and textures of the Irrawaddy River bank seen from Pakokku bridge during low tide.⁠ People living nearby the river used to fetch water form the river for their daily use and sometimes cross the sandbank carrying water. The appearance of patterns and textures on the river is due to some important factors. The river flows from north to south through Myanmar and is the country's largest river and most important commercial waterway. In 2007, Myanmar's government signed an agreement for the construction of seven hydroelectric dams at the confluence of the rivers. Environmental organizations raised concerns about the impacts on the river's biodiverse ecosystems. Following a series of disputes, the Myitsone Dam Reservoir project was suspended in 2017.
