Description

In the depths of North Canterbury, New Zealand, this Alpine region is one of my favourite places to photography the stars. Formations of hundreds of weathered limestone tors that erupt from golden tussocky hills. A bortle 2 sky - on the edge of bortle 1, it doesnt get much better than this. Named by Ngai Tahu Kura Tāwhiti (Maori tribe-our native people) or "treasure from afar" in reference to the kumara that was grown here, it's also an area of cultural and spiritual significance. This is the only selfie I've ever taken with the Milky Way. Sky was tracked with an ioptron skyguider pro and 50mm lens. with a Canon 5D MKIV and a 24mm f2.9 lens (Foreground)
