#19 - NEPTUNE’S STAIRWAY The Jurassic Coast offers an ironic mix of natural landscapes and man-made ones: oftentimes, when looking at the former you’d think it’s the latter, and vice-versa. Seacombe Cove is, in fact, the result of both. Man used it as quarry, nature sculpted and eroded what man left. The ledges always looked to me like a stairway down the abyss to the kingdom of Neptune, and I always wanted to make an image that conveyed that feeling. Being very familiar with the location, I timed my visit on a day when the tide was just right at sunset and the ocean rough enough to create the effect I was after, but not so rough as to make it impossible for me to reach my vantage point. On that evening, Neptune’s stairway revealed itself in front of my eyes. England 2017 | 5000 x 3333 px ABOUT VOICES OF THE OCEAN All my life, I felt a profound affinity with the sea. I always have been amazed by the magical way the ocean lives and breathes, by its powers and endless energy. The ocean feels to me like a living creature, benevolent and terrible at the same time, constantly at work shaping the landscape. The ocean comes with many voices, visually. The long waves and roaring waters offer an infinite range of expressive possibilities to interpret the ocean’s landscapes through a careful use of the visual representation of time. Working around the ocean, for me, is a never-ending source of inspiration: this collection represents 7 years of photography, listening to the Voices of The Ocean.
