It was the Dalai Lama that I heard every day in Leh. Followers from all over India and all over the world who came to see the Dalai Lama took over the city of Leh, and one or two welcome banners occupied the air every 20 to 30 meters. To see the Dalai Lama up close, some say that they follow him for years and follow him like a shadow. Compared to that, I am quite lucky. The Dalai Lama, whom I know as a living Gandhi for world peace, who fought for Tibet's independence amidst all kinds of persecution from China, was something I never thought of when I decided to travel to Ladakh, a Tibetan Buddhist region. .
When returning from Nubra Valley, most of the people who shared a jeep or met in Leh had left Leh, so there were strangers in the place of familiar travelers I met on the streets I passed every day. The repetitive phenomenon of someone leaving and someone coming back was something that only travelers who had nothing to enjoy but leisure could feel because they remained for as long as possible.
Early in the morning, I took a taxi with the Ladakhs. It was probably due to the judgment that a taxi ride by Ladakhs, who could speak directly, would be cheaper than tourists.
I am learning how to save money while traveling, how to meet friends, how to read maps, and how to go fast and slow.
an unplanned traveler
The Frenchman Mac, whom he met in Les, who returned from Nubra Valley, was a life-long traveler with no promises.
Her meeting with him was at a small seat in front of a restaurant that I pass by every day. While moving around the city of Leh, he opened a triangular seat and carved a symbol or religious pattern on the stone he had carved himself to complete the pendant and was doing business. Stone pendants were expensive for long-term travelers to purchase.
Nevertheless, I bought 5 of these stone pendants. It was almost three days' worth of expenses. I stopped buying souvenirs from time to time, and it was a really long time shopping. In addition, there was a rarity that was different from the products in the souvenir shop and the completeness was excellent enough to buy five.
When I bought 5 pendants, Mac shouted hooray and his expression quickly became bright. My first impression was a shabby image of a beggar, but seeing this, I looked like a comedian I saw on TV. When he said, 'I think this stone pendant is worth buying,' he suddenly opened his file and showed the drawings. The drawing set in India was not sensuous or special, but it was a picture that showed the hardness of skilled drawing and resembled a high-quality stone pendant.
It was a long time ago that I met self-sufficient travelers while traveling, and this is how I met them again.
When I see friends like this, I have a promise without promises, ‘I will someday too!’ Actually, it's not easy. In order to travel like this, you have to give up almost everything, including your job in reality, your social position, and your loved ones before you can leave. Regardless of the purpose of the trip, to travel purely without settling in one place for more than several months or years. Their age, nationality, and current situation did not matter much to their freedom.
