Description

Men taking the coffin around the village so people could pay respects and say their last good bye. Traditional funerals in Ghana are a huge celebration. They can last up to one week and play a central role within the community. There are drums, bands and personalized coffins depending on the deceased's occupation. I arrived at this fishermen village by the beach one week after the death of it's chief and the celebration was just starting. Incredibly loud music coming out of gigantic speakers, drums, music and a lot of drinking. And in the middle of a huge circle of people there was this fish shaped coffin with the body of the Chief Fisherman. It was the beginning of the festivities and a celebration of life.
