Description

The Road to Mount Ngauruhoe, Tongariro National Park, New Zealand This shot required a 3 and a half our drive starting at 3.30am to get to this spot in time for sunrise. I had been wanting to shoot Mount Ngauruhoe (Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings) for a long time but had been waiting for that perfect winter moment where the snow was at ground level. Finally my time had come. I saw that it had been snowing all day and that the forecast for the following morning was for clear sky. Although this road is notorious for black ice and dangerous conditions, I thought it was worth it for me drive the 3.5 hours and hope that I could get through. Lucky for me, things worked out and I was able to capture the image of my dreams of this beautiful mountain.
