Borrowed Lives: Anon is a series of 999 artworks by Ed Fornieles that follows the visual world of Anon, a fictional teenage boy growing up on the internet. As Anon moves through memes, online communities, gaming worlds, and digital subcultures, the images he encounters begin to shape his understanding of himself and the world around him. The series explores how identity is increasingly formed through the endless stream of visual culture we consume online, and how belonging is often found through shared images, aesthetics, and digital communities. Created using custom-built software and vast online image archives, the works sit between collage and moving image, reflecting the fragmented way we experience images today. Rather than telling a linear story, each artwork captures a moment in Anon's development, building into a broader portrait of a life shaped by the internet.
