To me, arches represent perfection that is not achievable in messy human lives. For that and other reasons, Islamic architecture features prominently in my work. This trip was no exception. On my second morning in Muscat, Oman, I visited the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. The entire complex was a delight. But I was especially drawn to one quiet outer passage. Here, I saw arches upon arches that created an illusion of an infinite pathway to awe. As a man walked into my frame, I felt it, too.
