As the body is replicated and reimagined, it becomes a metaphor for the multiplicity of selves that we adopt for different aspects of modern life. Generated with a custom trained AI model based on her previous art, then processed with two upscalers, Gordon’s latest series is an idiosyncratic surrealist collection. This is a realm where the self is endlessly recreated and displayed, a loop of introspection that both critiques and indulges the human penchant for self-obsession. Each tableau is a commentary on the contemporary condition, a blend of absurdity and truth, where the need for recognition and remembrance reveals our deepest desires and vulnerabilities. Vintage items, each a strange anachronism, are positioned throughout the spaces and challenge the viewer to consider the absurdity of self-importance. The intentional manipulation of time through decors and outfits serve to show that the roots of our narcissistic tendencies, have always been the same. The central figures stand amidst their own multiplicities, surrounded by the opulence of their own echoes.
