Description

'Onsen Ideals of Nirvana' (ONION) is a Winter Solstice AI film from 2023, a new chapter of the Niceaunties world-building project. Following the narratives of Auntie's Spa and 'Great Aunties Rituals of Love Incantation and Community' (GARLIC), this installment sees the Spa Aunties extending their healing venture into the forgotten halls and courtyards of an ancient sanctuary. The film portrays aunties marinating in organic veggies and sushi, luxuriating in the therapeutic onsens. Vibrant scenes of bustling outdoor baths and a floating marketplace unfold, encapsulating the communal spirit. The Winter Solstice, emblematic of transition, is mirrored in this healing space through a blend of surrealism and whimsy. The film plays with human scales and juxtaposes food, vegetables, and elderly women within spaces that meld diverse cultural influences. This joyful, light-hearted episode symbolises the transition from 2023 to the new year, reflecting the essence of change and rejuvenation.
