Abstract expressionism is the term applied to new forms of abstract art developed by American painters such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Willem de Kooning in the 1940s and 1950s. At its core, abstract expressionism is characterized by the liberation of artistic expression from the constraints of representation. It embraces the realm of the abstract, where artists seek to convey emotions, ideas, and experiences through non-representational forms. One of the hallmarks of this movement is the use of gestural brush-strokes or mark-making, which imbues the artwork with a sense of energy and dynamism. . The artists of abstract expressionism sought to capture the essence of their innermost thoughts and emotions, often employing techniques that conveyed a sense of spontaneity and immediacy. They believed in the power of the subconscious mind and the act of painting as a means of self-discovery and catharsis. Through their bold and uninhibited brushwork, they invited viewers to delve into the depths of their own emotions and interpretations. . . follow for updates: lockard.tez | blackout.tez | #davidlockard | @davidlockard . for exclusive art prints visit my website: davidlockard.com . ©2023 Copyright David Lockard • All Rights Reserved
