The Fungus Among Us is a digital risograph trading card collection, consisting of 22 different mushrooms divided into three categories: the good, the bad and the trippy. I've always been fascinated by mushrooms and their relationship with humans and life in general. From the harmless edibles to the deadly beautiful species and the special mushrooms filled with knowledge to share, fungi have been turning death into life dating way back over a billion years. Their intelligence isn't only shared wwith humans and other animals, but amongst themselves being capable of long distance communication and other characteristics which make them that much intriguing. In the end, this collection is just a way I found to externalize my fascination in the best way I know how, and I hope I can share a bit of this with you. Species: Morchella esculenta (Morel) Type: Good Location: The Morchella esculenta can be found widly distributed in North America, Canada, Brazil and Bulgaria. They are usually found on the base of dying elms. Trivia: The Morchella Esculenta are the most highly prized of all edible mushrooms, like all morels. Consuming these raw may cause gastrointestinal irritation, but parboiling or blanching before consumption will remove it. Older fruit bodies that show signs of decay may be poisonous. The mushrooms may also be fried in butter or baked after being stuffed with meats and vegetables. The Morchella esculenta can also be dried by threading the caps onto strings and hanging them in the sun, in a process which is said to concentrate the flavor. In one isolated case in Germany, sixc people were reported to have developed neurologic effects between 6 to 12 hours after consumpstion. The effects included ataxia and visual disturbances and lasted up to a day before disappeareing without enduring effects. All images in this collection are highly texture 3000x3000px PNGs, created using only three colors (Cyan, Magenta and Yellow), with tonal variations and other colors coming from halftones and color overlay in order to maintain the stipulated color limtiations.
