Description

Is a antropomorphic decomposer creature of the deep, the monster that is always and forever "just beneath" the surface. In some stories it is only a single entity; but in others it is a horde of them. It has been called by many names: αgαт, gαѕнαк σя вαlαgd. Its actual name is never given, except in a few of the most ancient and obscure tales. The folk who tell these tales know its true name, but are afraid to pronounce it aloud lest they summon up its terrible power. His body connects as mycelium to earth-roots and to the rootlets of trees. Its body is a great mass of interwoven roots and with an unending network of capillary fibres, and from these roots extend arms and legs which can grip any substance. These limbs are sometimes jointed like those of a human being, but more often they are merely projections of the mass itself. In the old tales, this monster is said to be able to move about on land and even to swim in water, though it prefers the deeps where no light penetrates. It is reputed to be a voracious eater of all organic matter.
