"Minutiae" is a series of computational drawings that delves into the unexplored territory between the definitions of words and images, aiming to navigate the intricate middle-ground concealed within linguistic boundaries. This body of work is a sketch to probe the limits of grammar, unearth the multi-layered dimensions of visual representation, illuminate the enigmatic aspects of verbal communication, and confront the formidable challenges of translation. In the process, Minutiae endeavours to expose the nebulous realm between words and images, shedding light on the uncharted nuances that constitute the tapestry of meaning. Central to the essence of Minutiae is the utilization of destructured visual mark-making, a technique chosen deliberately to unveil the concealed facets of language. These drawings serve as a metaphorical lantern, illuminating the untranslatable depths concealed within the commonplace dictionary definitions of words. They provide a glimpse into the liminal understanding that emerges when individuals attempt to extrapolate a concept encased within a word or image. Through computational drawings, this series sketches a sliver of the boundless plurality of meanings associated with a single word or concept, thereby instilling a heightened sensitivity to the variables at play in the communication between individuals with divergent capacities for meaning construction. The term "shibboleth" derives from the Hebrew word denoting a 'code of access'. In the realm of technology, it embodies a paradox wherein a single word encompasses opposing meanings—exclusion and acceptance. However, Minutiae compels us to reflect on the spaces in between these dichotomous interpretations. Drawing inspiration from the duplicity inherent in the term shibboleth, this series weaves an abstract tapestry, intricately meshing the uncharted middle ground between iconographic images. It serves as a visual representation of the concept of shibboleth, which, on one hand, offers an explanation up to a certain point, and on the other, veils the acknowledgement of interpretation. Language, as depicted in Minutiae, is both open and acknowledged, yet simultaneously messy, misunderstood and closed within a binary expression, etched indelibly in the annals of culture.
