Description
Rupert, my steadfast friend of fourteen years,
Golden-doodled joy, now facing unseen fears.
Cancer may claim your body, but never your spirit,
Your bright eyes still sparkle, your zest – I revere it.
At dawn you rise, adventure in your heart,
Unaware that soon, we may have to part.
Through my darkest days, you've been my guiding light,
A wagging tail, a comfort in the night.
From Arizona's deserts, sun-baked and wide,
To Montana's valleys, with mountains beside,
We've hiked every landscape this land could offer,
Your paws beside mine, making both our hearts stronger.
When cancer struck me and the world turned grey,
You were the sun that brightened every day.
In isolation, our bond grew ever stronger,
Your love made me wish each day were longer.
Homelessness tested us, in tent and in car,
You shivered beside me, never straying far.
Thirty homes in eighteen months, a nomad's life,
Yet you remained constant amidst the strife.
Your resilience astounds, your joy never fades,
Through all of life's ups and downs and shades.
Devoted and loving, you've never raised a tooth,
Your gentle soul a beacon of simple truth.
Even the coldest hearts melt at your gaze,
Your presence a gift that brightens all days.
Rupert, my friend, my family, my heart,
Your legacy of love will never depart.
Though time may be short, your impact is vast,
In my heart, your paw prints are forever cast.
Golden-hearted Rupert, as your journey nears its end,
Know you've been more than a pet – you've been my truest friend.
