Description

On a bright spring morning, after climbing 387 steps, I reached the top of the towers of Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris. A breathtaking Paris view and the iconic gargoyles welcomed me. Gargoyles have silently watched over Paris for centuries as guardians of the iconic Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris. Crafted from stone and shaped as mythological creatures, these intricate figures serve to protect the cathedral by channeling and draining the rainwater on the roof, preventing wall damage. Gargoyles also have a rich history from ancient times and are iconic in Gothic architecture, where symbolism is deeply embedded. Their grotesque designs were believed to ward off demons and safeguard from evil. Beyond their protective role, gargoyles also form an aesthetically appealing exterior to the cathedral, harmonizing with the stonework and its magnificent Gothic artistic architecture.
