Description

The Weird and the Terrifying. - Name: Yohualtepuztli (Night hatchet) Location: Mexico The Yohualtepuztli is a mysterious creature that lurks the mountains of Mexico, producing a sound similar to that of an axe striking a tree in order to attract curious travelers towards it. If anyone dares to go after the sound, they'll encounter a humanoid creature resembling a headless man. Instead of a head, the Yohualtepoztli has a stump like that of a tree and it's chest cavity is open and hollow revealing it's heart inside, framed on both sides by what seems like small hinged doors. These doors flap loosely creating the dull thuds. It is said that if you grab it's heart and threaten to tear it out, the creature can be asked for fame, glory, riches, strength amongst other gifts. In response, the creature will offer the person a handful of thorns, which would symbolize glory in war, and consequently, fame, glory and riches. But if the person chooses to run away from the Yahualtepuztli, there is no reward. They will flee in panic and misfortune will befall them. It is said that the Yahualtepoztli is related to Tezcatlipoca, god of war and the night, who uses the creature to scare and test humans for fun. - All pieces in "The Weird and the Terrifying" collection are highly textured 3000x3000 png files created using only four colors (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black), with tonal variations and other colors coming from halftones and color overlay in order to maintain the stipulated color limtiations.
