Description

The Weird and the Terrifying. - Name: Vodyanoy (He from the water) Location: Russia The Vodyanoy is a water spirit from Russian, Czech and Slovak folklore. He is said to appear as a naked old man with a frog-like face and the body covered in algae, with webbed paws and eyes that burn like red hot coals. In some versions he appears with a greenish beard, long hair and with his body covered in black scales. Dubbed the "grandfather" by locals, the Vodyanoy is usually seen riding a half-sunken log in rivers and lakes, where he resides. He hates humans and usually is hiden in the depths after sunset, atracting passersby and dragging them into the water. People who are drowned by the Vodyanoy become his slaves. In Czech folklore, the Vodyanoy (or Vodnici) would store the souls of the drowned in porcelain teapots, considered to be the creatures most valuable possession, and they would display their collection using the teapots as a sign of wealth and status. Fisherman will sometimes offer tabacco, butter and vodka to the creature, and if pleased, it will bring fish to the nets. - All pieces in "The Weird and the Terrifying" collection are highly textured 3000x3000 png files created using only four colors (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black), with tonal variations and other colors coming from halftones and color overlay in order to maintain the stipulated color limtiations.
