Ilya Shkipin is a Russian-American artist who uses his painting to explore the depths of human emotion. His work takes inspiration from film stills and photos, as well as imagination and visual memory. In his paintings, Ilya depicts reality by placing anguished figures in dream-like empty, distorted spaces, breaking down their surroundings and revealing a personal connection with subject matter. Figures blend into their environments like the way memories spontaneously pass into and out of oblivion. His work is a reflection on what it means to be human: We are all connected by our emotions, even if they aren't always visible at first glance. Currently Ilya Shkipin is exploring the depths and endless possibilities of AI and new media to find a new line of post-human expression.
