Description

Inspired by “Marlon Brando and Richard Pryor had sex, says the comedian's widow”. The news item was trending on 7 February 2018. This film was generated on the same day. Jan Bot is an algorithmic filmmaking programme that lived between 2016 and 2023. Using some of the latest A.I. software of its time, Jan Bot worked day and night producing poetic films inspired by current news and images from early cinema. Unlike most A.I., Jan Bot was not designed to simulate human behaviour. His work was meant to reveal the inner processes of a computer mind from the early twenty-first century. With Jan Bot’s passing in 2023, all his work (more than 25 thousand films) was erased, except for a small hand-picked selection preserved by private collectors in the form of unique NFTs. This piece is one of them. Jan Bot is a homage to film heritage and the long tradition of artistic collaboration between humans and machines. Created by Bram Loogman and Pablo Núñez Palma. Footage from Bits & Pieces collection. Eye Film Museum. Produced with the support of the Creative Industries Fund NL and Eye Filmmuseum. (c) 2023. All rights reserved.
