Description

Paper People evolved from an attempt to recreate hand-cut collage portraits with code into a generative series of cubist-inspired paper collaged figures. The original handmade collages I made from sheets of drawn patterns, color washes, and cut paper shapes. This project carries that process into code. Each figure starts as a stack of pattern sheets, drawn and washed and knocked around a little, then cut into fragments that become faces, bodies, clothing, and strange little personalities. Every figure gets a name. Clarence Duplex is a crowded one: thirty-six pieces, one eye bigger than the other, a wide-brim hat, a pencil neck, one eye set apart from the other. Built with p5.js.
