Description

Paper People evolved from an attempt to recreate hand-cut collage portraits with code into a generative series of cubist-inspired paper collaged figures. The original handmade collages I made from sheets of drawn patterns, color washes, and cut paper shapes. This project carries that process into code. Each figure starts as a stack of pattern sheets, drawn and washed and knocked around a little, then cut into fragments that become faces, bodies, clothing, and strange little personalities. Every figure gets a name. Harriet Dogear is a dense one: twenty-eight pieces, one eye bigger than the other, a stocking cap, a pencil neck, a grin fixed in place. Built with p5.js.
