About the Diary of Boredom Project:
I am essentially a Street Photographer.
On March 13th, 2020, lockdown of the Catalan midsize city of Igualada was declared, only one day before Barcelona and the whole country.
This day, I heard the news, I came home and dropped my camera on the table in the living room.
I did not pick this camera up until first de-confinement, by the end of May.
I have had a hard time explaining to people clearly why I could not even touch it. In an attempt, I got to use the image of the dog that, the very moment you grab the leash, wags its tail because it knows it means “going out for a walk”
Well, to me, grabbing the camera meant something close enough. Taking the camera was so very linked to the mere fact of going out, walking the streets, mingling with the crowd, observing how others, dozens and dozens of people pass by in an instant.
So, I left the camera on the table. I chose instead to capture with my (old) phone what staying confined, on my own, meant.
I could not even shoot in color. I had to tell all this silence in black and white, home alone.
I left the camera where I’d dropped it all this time and started my phone photography Diary of Boredom. Back then, I chose that name believing time would feel endless. I, on that point, was fully wrong. I did not find a moment to get bored, but the name will remain. I couldn't imagine (we couldn't imagine….)
