What started as an experimental project in which we decided to make some graphic art that was both personal and universal has now just entered its second year of steady creativity. Year 2 will be marked by black borders. A vintage year? We’ll have to wait and see. The sense of momentum that The Locate Yourself series seems to be picking up as we move forward is, I think, coming from the knowledge that we enjoy ourselves as new pieces emerge naturally from our conversations. Rather, @nonceptualism enjoys himself as I’m actually quite humorous. We are both fans of the appropriation of advertising imagery and style bringing all that into #popart. How #BarbaraKruger gets us to focus in on particular issues. Merchant Coppola: obvs. word+art=wordart; SOLD! We’ve nothing we want to convince you of. We’re still trying to figure out our own shit. We’ve all seen how beautiful art can enhance and embellish any environment. We thought conversation can do likewise. And it’s cheaper. We decided to catch snippets of our own conversations and add them to the growing mountain of photographs that we both habitually take, simply to see what they look like and to encourage us to think about what we were thinking about. And we do this to capitalise on the capacity of good art to be talked about. As well as context and references and feelings and practice we wanted there to be space, creatively, for viewers to explain to each other what is happening in each Locate Yourself piece. Meaning is a thing.
