Description
"Gracias. Gracias. Gracias." That has been my motto of life for last 33 years.
Things were rough back then. Yes, life was tough. For me. For April. And for the people who were with me. We used to live in a small town, nestled between hills and rivers. Our town bore the scars of a war that had ravaged the streets and left behind the haunting memories. And there, we both lived, worked tirelessly for half a day, in a paper mill, which we all used to call our HOME. And that's where I met April for the first time. Her laughter, the gleam in her eyes, and her cute little hair bun, made me feel that despite the hardships, you can find reasons for your happiness. For me, my reason was April. My reason is April. And my reason will be April, forever. I didn't thought back then, that even after 33 years, she'll stand along with me, my other half.
With time, I realized the essence of smaller achievements and good things that happen with us all, every day, but we rarely pay attention to it. Every Sunday, April and I used to go out, sit along the river, talk for hours, walk down the grassy meadows, while gazing the beautiful sky and merry faces of people boarding the old locomotive, covered in layer of dust. This part of my life was the happiest.
Life took a turn when the war raged again, and our life became increasingly unbearable. We both dreamt of a life, away from all this war torn town, where we could create art without worrying about this shadow of destruction, which is looming over us. And that's when we both decided to leave behind the only life we had ever known. A step for a new beginning, for us. The rhythmic clatter of the wheels became the soundtrack of our escape. We weaved our love story into the fabric of this world. We explored bustling cities, serene country sides and hidden corners of the earth, always carrying the memories of the paper mill with us. It's been so many years now, but still feels like yesterday when we both escaped the shadows of misery to achieve greater heights in life. I am thankful to all the things that happened to me, which turned me into a person I am today. Gracias.
