Shot in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 from our helicopter, flown by Jerry. This shot was also taken by Jerry using a Canon EOS 1DS, 300mm lens with image stabilizer. In 2022 we digitized our body of work from Katrina, and are sharing these unique stills, for the very first time. We were the only helicopter allowed access to the airspace other than the news-gathering chopper, so collectors will have the only pieces from this historic event. Everywhere we flew for the two weeks we were based out of Baton Rouge, flying over New Orleans and wider afield over the state of Louisiana, was engulfed in water. But often the water created mirrors of the landscape that remained. This piece is an example of the beauty we saw amidst the chaos; the calm, the tranquility, the ethereal weblike patterns reflecting themselves as strong, resilient, long-lasting. Having filmed in Kuwait after the first Gulf War for the great Werner Herzog, it’s our joy creating aerial images that could almost be from another planet - drawing the viewer into the piece, asking them to ask themselves, “what do I see, what does it all mean, what can I do”?
