Description

GIF, 1200 x 800 px, 2026 In Disintegrated Posts, Yuran Yakon explores the representational function of animals in memes, social media posts and art history, deconstructing the possibility of using them for explicit narratives. The looping GIFs function as a visual field for contemplation, and give way to an unstable searching gaze. Moreover, the question arises, why images of animals, like classic cat-memes or videos, are so often used in digital communication, in which the human language generally dominates and defines the representation of these animals. Disintegrated Posts aesthetically builds on the previous series, Streams (2025), and the following series, Deranged Landscapes (2026). The template of these series serves as a general visual reflection of the human condition in front of an electric screen and the flow of pixels, and it is used as an underlying dynamic element in all works. Above this dynamic layer is a more static layer of silhouette-like images in the middle and single words in each corner of the image. This formation foregrounds the relationship between the visual process and the conceptual reality of thought and language, making their mutual influence tangible. Yuran Yakon uses glitch, compression, and basic image manipulation techniques to create an aesthetic experience that reflects the format of social media posts. By decontextualising images and presenting them in a new aesthetic form, they become part of a realm in which imagination and thought are directed towards the possibilities of indefinite association and vague contemplation. In the contemporary digital world and its recursive reality, often only a few words combined with an image are enough to create and push narratives totally entangled with their technological environments, and impossible to imagine and think without these. The core idea is to make use of digital materialities without steering their meaning in a particular direction, enabling the viewer to search for and determine meaning and significance on their own, and to foreground an aesthetic experience open to what is undetermined and unstable in the human relationship to screens, computation, the digital infrastructure and the narratives created through them.
