Description

The Crown by Gregory Betts responds to the ‘royal crown’ of sonnets entitled "The Crown of Venom" in ‘The Xenotext (Book 2)’ by Christian Bök. Betts translates each of these fifteen sonnets into a grid of hues (10 × 14 in size). Each square of colour corresponds to a rhymable syllable, encoded according to a schema used by Betts in his book, entitled BardCode, which visualizes all the rhymes in the 154 sonnets of William Shakespeare. Editions of "The Crown of Venom" by Betts are priced at 16.66xtz to reflect the year of the Great Plague of London (during which, while ringed by another crown of venom, John Milton wrote Paradise Lost). © 2019.
