Description

Drift diving in about 100' of water in the Galapagos Marine Reserve. We were diving the smaller islands to the north - Darwin & Wolf Islands- because that was the best places to catch a sighting of the Whale Sharks. Females come to the Galapagos to give birth in the Spring so we got to see a few of these expectant mothers. There were 6 of us in a scuba diving group, drift diving in a 2 knot current at a depth of about 100' when she comes out of the darkness and passes between all of us. I actually had to move out of her way before she swam into me. These creatures are enormous and magnificent. I only caught a part shot of her because I was so shocked to see one for the first time I forgot I was holding my camera rig. Captured with 35mm Nikonos V and underwater strobe.
