Get Low Polaroid 669ER image Special Airdrop Edition for Collectors. Get Low I was literally in the grass, on my belly, to capture this one! The Collection The High Level Bridge or Lethbridge Viaduct is the longest and highest steel Railway trestle bridge in the world. The bridge was designed in the office of the engineer of bridges of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company at Montreal; the substructure was laid out and built under the direction of the assistant chief engineer (western lines), Mr. J.E. Schwitzer, of Winnipeg, Man. It was built between 1907 & 1909 in the age of steam and solved a huge problem of multiple circuitous routes and steep grades to cross the Old Man river valley. It saved the CPR huge sums of money in the long term and to my knowledge the bridge is still used to this day. Loco 2816 was also built in Montreal and was refurbished in Calgary where was able to shoot it. So I thhout it fitting to fuse these two together using Polaroid Double exposures. These were shot on Fuji Velvia CN slide film. Once back home in the studio I used the slides to create Polaroid images on EXPIRED 669ER film using Daylab Slide Printer. Many images have film aberrations, colour shift and other flaws. It has taken me 14 years to get to this point where I feel comfortable in sharing these with you. The Collection embraces the abstract qualities of the structure from certain angles and celebrates the age of steam and one of the engineering marvels of the 20th century.
