In 2022 artist Dadara (@Dadaratopia) minted his drawing/NFT "Ceci n'est pas une Bored Ape", inspired by René Magritte's painting of a pipe "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" (1929) posing a similar question 93 years later. Is the depicted object the same as the object itself or only a representation of the object? If Dadara's NFT is not a Bored Ape, it is a Non-Bored Ape. What happens if you invert Dadara's black on white original? Will an inverted Non-Bored Ape then become a Bored Ape? -1 x (Non-Bored Ape) = Bored Ape? -1 x (Ceci n'est pas une Bored Ape) = C'est une Bored Ape? As an experiment Dadara invited and granted permission to buyers/owners of his NFT to mint and sell 10 editions of their own version/interpretation, under the condition the original version is burned.
