One of the most precious musical cultural creations in Brazil, Samba is now recognized worldwide as a musical genre and cultural expression. But at the beginning of the so-called urban samba, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, it suffered a lot of prejudice, since it originated among the urban Afro-Brazilian communities of the city in the early 20th century. Having its roots in West African cultural expression and Brazilian folk traditions, especially those linked to primitive rural samba from the colonial and imperial periods, it is considered one of the most important cultural phenomena in Brazil and one of the country's symbols. To this day, the "rodas de samba" are famous both in the communities where they originated, and in wealthy areas throughout Brazil. In them, friends meet to play and sing, drink, eat and talk, for hours on end, accompanied by a lot of samba.
