medro (mel mesquita) is an artist, actress and singer I met in the cluster of buildings at the institute of arts at unb, where we meet during class breaks to smoke and exchange ideas. at the time I met her, the “culto das malditas” was in its initial formation, and in addition to being a great reference, I was also welcomed by them. One of my first opportunities in my career as an artist was at their invitation to the exhibition “inferninho katya flavya”, which took place at Galeria a Pilastra, here in Brasília, in the Federal District. and when the local ballroom scene was in its grand opening, with the birth of new houses, I was invited to participate in the “casa das malditas”. I always felt extremely represented and welcomed by their transgressive songs, by the punk attitude that at the same time created a safe space where lgbtqia+ people, dissident bodies, in vulnerable situations could strengthen ourselves. recently medro is in the process of releasing her album MTB (música travesti brasileira) and I was invited to collaborate creatively with this project, assuming the art direction. I am very honored to participate in this process, which is being super challenging, but in which I have learned a lot. soon the album will be available for everyone. I registered her in this 3d because I believe that art direction reflects a lot with my personal creative process and I thought this story was worth remembering.

medro (mel mesquita) é uma artista, atriz e cantora que conheci no aglomerado de prédios do instituto de artes da unb, ali onde a gente se encontra nos intervalos de aula pra fumar e trocar ideias. na época que a conheci, o culto das malditas estava em sua formação inicial, e além de uma grande referência, também fui acolhide por elas. uma das minhas primeiras oportunidades na minha trajetória de artista, foi à convite delas, pra exposição “inferninho katya flavya”, que aconteceu na galeria a pilastra, aqui em brasília, no distrito federal. e quando a cena ballroom local estava em sua grande reinauguração, com o nascimento de novas houses, fui convidade pra participar da casa das malditas. eu sempre me senti extremamente representado e acolhido por suas músicas transgressoras, pela atitude punk que ao mesmo tempo criava um espaço seguro onde pessoas lgbtqia+, corpos dissidentes, em situação de vulnerabilidades podíamos nos fortalecer. recentemente medro está no processo de lançar seu álbum MTB (música travesti brasileira) e fui convidade a colaborar criativamente com esse projeto assumindo a direção de arte. estou muito honrado de participar desse processo, que está sendo super desafiador, mas no qual tenho aprendido muito. em breve o álbum estará disponível para todes. registrei ela nesse 3d pois acredito que direção de arte reflete muito com meu processo criativo pessoal e achei que essa história valia a pena ser lembrada.
