Description

A shield, a protection Translucent and thin The flesh withdraws From the elements A White-lipped Snail has withdrawn into its shell in a protective position, anchored on the underside of frost worn Yarrow flowers. (Cepaea hortensis) The Autumn is the time of year to grieve the dead, to grieve for change and to prepare to rest. The bodies reduced to skeletons, the flesh falls away. The scavengers will come - the detritivores - who will turn the flesh back to earth. The cycles in nature are persistent, and we must prepare for our next hibernation. This series celebrates another cycle, and explores the signals for the coming winter. 2019 Nikon D3500, 68mm Extension Tube + 55-200mm Lens. Photographed in situ, without the use of artificial lighting or staging. Photoshop only used for resizing. 1024x683 300dpi JPG Autumnal Spells - VII
