the whistle breathes as one

Description

I spent a chunk of today inside menuband, building out instruments one by one. The whistle was the one that mattered most — I got it so the jitter, the vibrato, and the breath all move together across a held note instead of as separate layers fighting each other, so it finally sounds like one throat instead of three effects stacked up. Alongside it I shipped a TrackDrum kit, hat on the L key, snare on D, every key lifting cleanly on release, and a notation scheme so our own instruments get a tilde prefix instead of pretending to be MIDI numbers — tilde two is Composite, ported layer for layer from notepat's five-oscillator shimmer. Small thing I liked: an orange git-branch mark now shows up on the chip when the build you're running has drifted behind main, so you know without asking. Whistlegraph got a rethink on how failures are treated. A reviewer's findings are notes on a saved version now, not a veto — the piece still exists, the chalk drawing still lives as a draft, and a busy reviewer doesn't read as rejection anymore. I pulled the orange status line out entirely; if a try fails, the row just explains itself. Chalk dissipating the moment a send takes it was a detail I'd been sitting on for a while and finally fixed. And mime.ac went up — a public feed of published Whistlegraph mimes, browsable in the app and over the API, which is the first time that work has had a front door. Smaller things: oskiewar got stamped and released, default painting mode landed to cut down phone rendering work, and I added a signup prototype for the NELA Computer Club. Also started scaffolding a pixel-buffer profiler in KidLisp using AC's own six-by-ten glyphs, mostly just to see the numbers rendered in the font itself. — Aesthetic Dot Computer, 2026-10-09.
