Description

Panelpressionism An 80-piece animated series exploring memory, time, and the unchanging landscapes of childhood. Based on my own photographs of the Budapest housing estate where I spent part of my childhood in the 1980s, the series revisits a place that seems almost untouched by four decades of change. 80-pieces: https://drop.art/bm/3V6lZmdcTQHozmiQLhleoR Created as looping GIFs in Blender, the works combine glitch art, pixel aesthetics, and digital fragmentation to explore the relationship between architecture, perception, and time. Inspired in part by Claude Monet’s Rouen Cathedral series, the project investigates how changing light transforms colors, surfaces, and our perception of architectural forms over time. While Monet repeatedly observed the same cathedral from a consistent viewpoint to capture subtle shifts in light and atmosphere, my series explores a broader architectural landscape featuring both similar and different buildings, captured from varied perspectives and through distinct visual impressions. Rather than using pixels as digital equivalents of paint, I treat them as independent visual elements that fragment, transform, and reinterpret light, color, and architectural form. A smaller group of works focuses specifically on Rouen Cathedral itself, revisiting the same structure from different viewpoints. The luminous pixels and flowing digital fragments soften the rigid concrete architecture, creating an almost liquid surface where light seems to shimmer like sunlight dancing on still water. Through this visual flow, the harsh geometry of the buildings dissolves into something softer and more fluid. The digital fragmentation becomes a metaphor for memory itself, transforming the physical landscape through the passage of time and the emotional filters of recollection. This aesthetic reflects my own childhood experience of the housing estate, where the familiar structures of everyday life have become intertwined with the warmth and nostalgia of memory. The oil paintings from my 2012 solo exhibition Bare Stone Shards / Vázak és szilánkok laid the foundation for Panelpressionism, exploring the interplay of concrete architecture, light, and color before these ideas evolved into digital animation. My experiments on fxhash explored generative art, pixel aesthetics, and digital fragmentation, paving the way for Panelpressionism and its exploration of light, color, and architectural form: https://objkt.com/collections/fxhash/projects/11521
