Description

A wise and experienced Apatani elder in Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, India, expertly prepares rice beer, a traditional and cherished part of the tribe's culture, using her knowledge and skills passed down through generations. Apatani are known for their facial tattoos and nose plugs. Since Apatani women are known for their beauty, many years ago, when their women were being stolen by other tribes, the men started to make them wear nose plugs and tattooed their face to make them appear less beautiful.
