Description

This edition of "ROJŌ KANSATSU" is made of pics taken in an undisclosed location in the Ibaraki Prefecture. That is the prefecture that is North of Chiba which you might know where Narita Airport is located and it's sort of East-North of Tokyo. I was there to spend time with my partner Shellkokeshi at her father's house where she is currently living and taking care of him. Ibaraki is not the most popular destination, in fact it has ranked at the very bottom of attractiveness ranking many times. There are some places in Ibaraki you might go to like MIto or Tsukuba, but the rest of it is not popular destinations for tourism at all. The upside of living in these parts of Ibaraki is that, it's much much cheaper to live than the more popular places like Tokyo or Kanagawa. You might be able to buy a house there for the fraction of the budget of other places. So, if you like to live cheaply in a big house in a place with very little cultural places of intrigue, this might be your place. We went out on a walk to see if I can take enough pictures to be able to do this project with. At first, there didn't seem to be much to take photos of where it's mostly just vegetable fields and residential houses. However, we started to find some very interesting things like abandoned houses overgrown with wild vegetation, illegal waste dumping in a cliff next to a back street. Since this isn't the city where there's free printed material to pick up, I designated shellkokeshi's father's house as a place to pick up printed material and there was more than plenty. There were these dog (Shiba in particular) magazines as there used to be a very cute shiba that we would take on walks on the very roads we walked. There were also lots of newspaper advertising to go through. Frankly too much for me to get through in one sitting, so I was able to make many analog collages and I picked out one for this piece. Usually, the analog collages don't have too much relation to the photo collage, but for this one because we have the memory of walking the family dog on these roads, they relate quite a bit for us personally. Seeing places like this makes me think of how we're going to come down from the hyper cosumerism society in which we still live in today. As we and the world get older, we become less able to handle all the material we have surrounded ourselves with. 6486 × 6763 px
