My work "Relevant Entities" is part of a deconstruction-recomposition approach to Van Gogh's Wheat Field, where subrealism (between figuration and abstraction) becomes a visual language to explore:
- Agrarian Animism: Natural entities (ears of wheat, winds, telluric forces) are transfigured into moving forms, between appearance and dissolution, evoking primordial cults linked to the earth.
- Abstract Expressionism in Motion: Through frame-by-frame animation, Van Gogh's pictorial gesture (his swirls, his feverish brushstrokes) is energized in a minimalist way, as if the painting were breathing, revealing a visual memory in perpetual mutation.
- Hybrid digital subculture: The clipped manual tracing and digital painting create a techno-artisanal palimpsest, where digital technology does not erase the manual but sublimates it, questioning authenticity in the post-digital era.
2. Philosophical approach: Relevance of entities and utopian duality
By reinterpreting Wheat Field through the prism of Xanthopsia (yellow vision), I explore:
- The relevance of natural entities: The ears of wheat become "spirits" of the field, invisible but essential presences, referring to agrarian mythologies where wheat is both food and divinity. This reading echoes Van Gogh's idea of a living and inhabited nature.
- The coexistence of opposites: Yellow, the color of light and madness in Van Gogh, symbolizes here the precarious balance between euphoria and melancholy. Your mixed media (raw acrylic vs. ethereal digital) embodies this tension.
- Digital Utopia: By hybridizing canvas and digital painting, I propose a form of artistic spirituality, where the classical and the contemporary interact without hierarchy, like the animist cults that united the visible and the invisible.
3. Technique and Meditation: Reinvention of Gesture
- Photographed Acrylic Painting: The physical material (texture, impasto) is preserved, but its digitization transforms it into a living archive, a digital fossil.
- Minimalist Animation: By animating the details (a curving abstraction, a pulsating line), you create a kinetic painting, where the time of contemplation becomes an integral part of the work.
- Manual Clipping: This slow, almost ritualistic gesture recalls Baroque vanitas, where each element is both fragile and eternal.
4. Conclusion: Van Gogh in the Age of Metaverses
"Relevant Entities" is not a simple reinterpretation, but an algorithmic resurrection of Van Gogh's soul. By blending subrealism and digital hybridization, I pose a fundamental question: How can digital technology re-enchant the pictorial sacred?
My Xanthopsia collection thus becomes a manifesto: art does not die, it transcodes itself. Yellow is no longer just a color, but a state of perception—one that allows us to see, like Van Gogh, the invisible in the visible.
